The diagnostic efficiency of cutaneous biopsies can be
improved by:
-
Use a dermatopathology service to take
advantage of the special interests and training of these
pathologists.
-
Obtaining several skin samples from
different representative lesions. Sample everything that looks
different.
-
Provide the pathologist with a
detailed list of differential diagnoses based on clinical lesions,
patterns, and response to treatment.
- Insist on a histopathology report that includes a thorough
description of the skin sections as well as a discussion of how
these findings rule-in or rule-out the differential diagnoses
provided by the clinical veterinarian.
